2014 marks election year

By April Baumgarten

2014 is an even number and that means election time is just around the corner.
Jan. 1 is the first day candidates may start circulating petitions for elections, according to the Secretary of State’s Office in Bismarck. Hazen Mercer County has several positions on the ballot.

City of Hazen
Hazen has several positions on the ballot, including three city commission seats.
The commission president seat will be on the June 10 ballot. The position is currently held by Mark Nygard.
Two commission seats, which are held by Nancy Wolf and Jerry Obenauer Jr., are also on the ballot.
The seats are non-partisan positions that require a position to be filed by April 7. Candidates must collect 10 percent of the electors who voted in the last city election.
