Latimer steps down
Lyle Latimer, Hazen, has stepped down from his post as Mercer County Commissioner.
Interim manager in place at Falkirk Elevator
Falkirk Farmers Elevator has a new interim manager in place after the resignation of manager Ron Hefta. The news is a step forward for the co-op that just two weeks ago had to put the brakes on the merger between Falkirk Farmers Elevator and Hazen Farmers Elevator with CHS/Garrison Farmers Union Elevator due to discrepancies in a voluntary investigation.
Commission issues on the ballot
The questions of whether to increase the number of county commissioners and how to elect those commissioners are officially in the hands of Mercer County voters.
Several public service messages created by Hazen High School students were named finalists in the North Dakota Department of Transportation and AAA's third annual North Dakota Teen Drivers Safety Contest. The public now has the opportunity to vote for winners in billboard and 30-second public service announcement categories until voting closes at 5 p.m. Friday, April 27.
Burn ban reduced
The Mercer County Commission, with recommendation from the Mercer County Sheriff and local fire chiefs, reduced the countywide Stage II Fire Ban to a countywide Stage I Fire Ban until further notice at its regular meeting April 18 in Stanton.
MCC candidates: Bauer and Scharbach
Seven Mercer County residents have filed petitions to be placed on the Primary Election ballot for one seat on the Mercer County Commission, with little time remaining until the April 13 deadline. Of those seven candidates, two will advance to the General Election ballot in November.
Favorable conditions make for positive spring ag. outlook
So far so good for this year’s planting and calving seasons, as warm, dry conditions have taken some of the stress off area producers’ minds.
City takes steps to finalize Annabelle land transfer
With a recommendation for approval from the City Planning and Zoning Commission on the table, the Hazen City Commission unanimously approved a preliminary plat and rezoning of property that’s slated for commercial and residential development in west Hazen.
