A possible answer to a slippery situation

By Daniel Arens

It’s not often you run across a small town in North Dakota that has an ice rink.
But Hazen is the exception to the rule in this way, as in other things one might expect from the rural parts of this state. The All Seasons Arena has become a staple of Hazen’s vibrancy and community life, attracting skaters of all kinds, and allowing the town to host a joint hockey team with Beulah and events like ice skating shows.
However, the “ice plant”, the system that keeps the arena’s rink up and running, is fast approaching its end-of-life date, and the Hazen Winter Sports Board is looking at overhauling the system entirely to bring the facility up-to-date.
“There’s been multiple breakdown’s over the last few years,” Jordan Schantz, secretary of the Hazen Winter Sports board of directors, said. “It’s been patched up by the parents, but we’re to the point where repairs just aren’t cutting it any more.”
