At Oshkosh, Hazen pilots look to the sky

By Daniel Arens

It’s a special opportunity for anyone, and an unforgettable experience for local fliers.
Each summer, the town of Oshkosh in Wisconsin plays host to a crowd of hundreds of thousands of airplane enthusiasts the world over, from New Zealand to England, and from massive cities like Los Angeles to the small towns of Hazen and Beulah in North Dakota.
Over the years, several excited pilots from Mercer County have made the trek (or rather, the flight) out east to have their planes take part in the largest airplane event in the country, and, according to some sources, the planet.
“I’ve been here seven times since 1982,” Jerry Jaeger said. “Ten thousand airplanes gather here, with 500,000 people coming from all over the world during the week. It’s an awesome gathering of birds.”
