Basin Electric selling 25 acres in Hazen

By Lee Coleman

The questions surrounding the 25-acre plot south of the Hazen Cemetery on the west side of the road have finally been answered.
The tract was part of a larger tract purchased by Basin Electric Power Cooperative in 1979. The land was originally slated for use during the days of construction at Antelope Valley Station for impact alleviation housing.
Now, after 35 years, Basin will sell the tract by sealed bids due at 2 pm. July 1. The top three bidders will be called to a private auction where the top bidder will claim the prize.
The property is located on County Road 27 off of Highway 200 in Hazen. Go north to the intersection of Divide Street and west of CR 27.
The tract is zoned for agriculture and is used as hay land. Because it is in the limits of the City of Hazen, any relief on the housing shortage in the area cannot happen until the Hazen City Commission approves a new zoning request to residential.
