Basin signs contract for wind

Two wind projects could help an electric company provide “much-needed” energy to the Bakken.
Basin Electric Power Cooperative has signed two power purchase agreements with Infinity Wind Power, officials announced last week. The wind generation company from Santa Barbara, Calif., will develop two wind projects in North Dakota with a combined capacity is 278 megawatts.
“Infinity Wind Power is pleased to provide this low-cost energy resource to Basin Electric,” Infinity CEO Matt Riley said.
The Sunflower Wind Project is expected to produce 106 megawatts near Hebron. The Antelope Hills Wind Project, planned for Golden Valley, should generate 172 megawatts. The company expects to start applying for permits through the Public Service Commission next year, Riley said. The Sunflower Wind Project also must be approved through a federal agency.
“Harnessing North Dakota’s wind to provide power to Basin Electric’s diverse membership base has been our objective for several years, so we’re thrilled that these projects are moving forward,” he said.
