Budget set for approval
After a swift and efficient pair of budget meetings, the Hazen City Commission is all set to approve their 2011 budget. At the commission’s second budget meeting Monday evening at City Hall, the commission took one last look over the budgeted numbers for 2011. Much of Monday’s discussion centered on city employee wages. The commission weighed whether to provide all employees a boost of 4 percent or to give them a flat increase of 75 cents per hour, which for top wage-earners would be a boost of just over 3 percent. In the end, the commission voted to increase wages 75 cents per hour for all regular and part-time employees, plus pick up 100 percent of the employees’ health benefits package.
