Buzz, buzz, buzz: West Nile season has begun
Tis the season for West Nile.
That's what officials said last week after the virus claimed its first victim this year. Now the North Dakota Department of Health is reminding people once again to take precautionary steps.
“Usually at the end of July into August is usually where we have peak transmission of West Nile virus occurring,” said Michelle Feist, program manager for the West Nile Virus Program
Officials had confirmed 16 human cases of West Nile as of Tuesday. It has also found the virus in seven horses, seven birds and two other animals. No cases have been positively identified in Mercer, McLean and Oliver counties.
“We are in that time of year where West Nile is being transmitted,” Feist said. “Particularly now when the weather is warm into August I think people should still be award.”
