Careful planning will be needed to address bizarre weather season

It’s been a very wet fall for Mercer County.
And we’re not alone. All over the state, high moisture levels, sometimes record-setting, have saturated the ground for days and weeks on end.
That makes getting out in the fields for the harvest rather tricky.
And things aren’t likely to improve in the spring. The high moisture levels arising prior to the freeze, as well as forecasts of a potentially wet and snowy winter, mean that thaw may bring about flooding in places. Even areas that don’t end up flooding could still be very saturated, and that could make spring planting as difficult as autumn harvesting.
These complexities in the growing and yielding season also come with financial hardships for area producers.
