Caring for yourself: A Hazen heart attack survivor’s story

By Daniel Arens
Women dedicate a large part of their time to helping and caring for others. But it can prove hard to do this if you don’t first take time to help and care for yourself.
Ann Unterseher’s life proved to be a busy and productive one. So much so that she failed to heed the signs warning her that her heart health might be jeopardized.
In 2011, Unterseher suffered a heart attack. Thanks to quick responses by her husband Brian and staff at both Sakakawea Medical Center and CHI St. Alexius in Bismarck, she survived the harrowing experience.
Now, she is encouraging women to open up to each other, share their stories, and care for themselves.
“I would just like to stress that women don’t take care of themselves like they should,” she said. “It’s so important to support each other in this.”
