Citizens protest passage of special assessments
A handful of residents within a special assessment district designed to pay for the city’s recent flood control project voiced their discontent at the Hazen City Commission’s regular meeting Monday at Hazen City Hall.
The city recently assessed 825 property owners within the flood protection district – which lies entirely south of the North Dakota Highway 200 bypass – a combined total of $600,000. A three-person Special Assessment Commission, chaired by Greg McCarthy, determined how much each property within the district would be assessed by determining the benefit each property would derive from the flood control project.
