City Commission approves water contract

The first drop of water delivered to Hazen in 2011 via the Southwest Pipeline Project will set in motion a 40-year partnership between the two entities.

On Monday, the Hazen City Commission approved a 40-year service contract between the city, Southwest Water Authority and the North Dakota State Water Commission. Under terms of the contract, the city must purchase no less than 100,000 gallons per year, and all water supplied will meet N.D. Department of Health water quality standards. The base rate for capital costs for constant flow shall be 72 cents per 1,000 gallons of water purchased. The water will be piped in at a single connection into the city’s water tower in north Hazen. The SWWA and NDSWC previously approved the application.
