Commissioners, Cascade get on the same page
All eyes are on the prize. The path leading to that prize, however, seemed a bit blurry until the Hazen City Commission meeting Monday evening. The commission and Cascade Homes, Inc. of Bozeman, Mont., both desire to build additional housing in Hazen – and until Feb. 16, the two parties seemed to be on track to do just that. Those charted waters were muddied, however, when the city altered course and began the process of establishing a Tax Increment Financing District to help fund the project. A TIF is a way for cities to use growth in tax revenues to pay for the costs of developing that property.
