Community Chest:
If Wall Street woes and $3-plus gas mean anything to you – which it almost surely does – your dollar is precious to you right now. But individuals aren’t the only ones feeling the financial crunch, as charitable organizations across the region are also feeling the pinch.
Hazen Community Chest is a volunteer organization that raises funds to directly benefit children, families and seniors of Mercer County – and those efforts are more important now than ever. In light of the tough financial times, Community Chest is aiming to ease the pain on the pocketbook by providing an automatic monthly withdrawal option through Union State Bank.
"All of us are experiencing economic woes, as are our area nonprofit organizations," said Hazen Community Chest Board President Linda Terfehr. "We need to continue to help them along."
The option allows those with a giving spirit to spread out a donation over a period of time rather than donating one large lump sum – hopefully making donations easier on the pocketbook, Terfehr added.
To set up a payment system, those interested may contact Leanne Stiefel at Union State Bank or set up automatic withdrawal through the financial institution of their choice.
Hazen Community Chest has raised $9,743 thus far during their 2008 campaign – over one-third of the way to their goal of $27,000 by the campaign’s Dec. 31end. Donations, however, are accepted year-round.
Brochures were mailed out Aug. 15, and allow for the donor to designate specific donation recipients. Donations may be marked undesignated, which will result in the donation being spread out equally throughout the local nonprofit organizations. The form may be completed and returned with check made payable to Hazen Community Chest. Personal checks as well as pledges with a personalized payment system are accepted.
