Conrad and Pomeroy inspect flood damage in Beulah
It was hopeful news to Beulah and fellow Mercer County residents when Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., and Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-N.D., met with Mercer County and city officials April 8 at the Beulah City Hall to get a firsthand report on flood and snow damage. Both men pledged their support as the county recovers from flooding that caused significant structural damage to area homes and businesses. Among the cities, Beulah was hit the hardest with an estimated 80 homes in the city’s south side flooded in various capacities. Five of these homes suffered severe damage when basement walls caved in from the floodwaters. The cities of Hazen, Zap and Golden Valley suffered lesser, yet still devastating damage; and two homes in Stanton also suffered damage from the rapidly melting waters of the Knife River and its tributaries. Farmers, ranchers, parks, city and county roads have also suffered devastating damages with costs not yet tallied.
