Cops and Kids Fishing Derby this Saturday
The Mercer County Peace Officers Association is sponsoring the fourth Annual Cops and Kids Fishing Derby from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 22 at Harmony Lake, six miles north of Hazen, for children 12 and younger. Children under 10 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. It is a free fishing day in Mercer County, so parents do not need a fishing license to bring their children out to fish. Fishing rods will be available for children who don’t have their own and bait will be provided by Cenex, Hook Line and Sinker and Mel Roth Oil. The officers will be grilling up hot dogs for lunch. Children will also be able to see law enforcement and dive rescue vehicles up close and the North Dakota Game and Fish Department will be demonstrating its "shocker boat" it uses to stun fish for tagging.
