County takes their time on decision to petition DOT
With time on the agenda at last Wednesday’s Mercer County Commission meeting, the commission decided to take more time on their decision on whether or not to petition the Department of Transportation to transfer Mercer County from Mountain time to Central time. Beulah Chamber of Commerce representatives Kevin Flaagan, president, and Bruce Schmidt approached the table to provide the commission an update on their push for Central time. Since the last meeting, Flaagan said the city of Hazen and the Center-Stanton School District had submitted letters supporting the switch to Central time, joining letters from the cities of Pick City, Stanton, Beulah, Zap; Hazen and Beulah school districts; and energy industry representatives such as Ottertail Power Company, Dakota Westmoreland Corporation, North American Coal Industry and Great River Energy; and healthcare entities Sakakawea Medical Center, Knife River Care Center and Coal Country Community Health Center.
