County weighs options while awaiting hacking verdict
Mercer County officials are weighing their options while awaiting the end of the FBI’s investigation into the swiping of about $100,000 from a county bank account more than two years ago.
In mid-May 2009, Union State Bank, Hazen, notified Mercer County that there had been unusual activity in the county’s checking account held at the bank. The bank immediately halted the transaction and recovered about $130,000 of the money. The county used the account to pay general expenses and employee payroll, according to Mercer County auditor Monte Erhardt.
