Dollars for SCHOLARS Phone-A-Thon dialing up

By Lee Coleman

If your phone rings on Sunday between 1p.m. and 4 p.m., area high school seniors are hopeful the phones will be answered.
On the other end will likely be one of 13 Hazen High School students participating in the second annual Hazen Area Dollars for Scholars Phone-A-Thon sponsored by West River Telecom.
The students will be working the phones to help raise money for 2015 scholarships.
Last year, the Phone-a-Thon raised enough money to fund $850 scholarships for eight students. In 2014, the Hazen Area Dollars for Scholars program funded 46 scholarships for $36,800.
In fact, every student that applied received a scholarship from $250 up to the Cliff Thorson Scholarship of $2,000.
West River Telecom will establish 13 phone lines in the WRT annex building for the fundraiser.
“We are expecting a terrific response from the communities,” said said Hazen High counselor Kris Krause.
