Expanded roundabout in the works for 2020

By Daniel Arens

It’s an intimidating situation for those traveling east or west.
The situation is the intersection of Highway 200 and Highway 49 about a mile north of Beulah, where the east-west traffic must stop and wait for vehicles coming from town to the south or from the plants to the north.
Accidents, sometimes fatal, over the years first prompted the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) to begin looking at the possibility of installing a roundabout to replace the intersection at the location. Similar roundabouts have been put in further west to help address the increase in truck traffic during the oil and energy boom.
