Fatal shooting leaves one dead, one injured

One man is dead and another is wounded after being shot Tuesday night in Beulah.

According to Mercer County Sheriff Dean Danzeisen, Mike Padilla, 22, Beulah, was killed and his brother, Timothy Padilla, 21, Billings, Mont., was wounded. After receiving a 911 call from individuals in the apartment building, area law enforcement and ambulances were dispatched. Timothy was taken to Sakakawea Medical Center where he was stabilized before being taken to Medcenter One.

According to Danzeisen, witnesses stated that three men fled the scene.

Danzeisen then requested a “Signal 100,” which called in all area law enforcement to stop all cars in this region. At approximately 9 p.m. law enforcement from the State Patrol, ND Game and Fish, State Park Rangers, Hazen Police Department and Oliver County Sheriff’s Department joined the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department and Beulah Police Department.

At approximately 9:15 p.m. the first subject was located in Stanton and taken in for questioning. At approximately 10:30 p.m. the second subject was located in Hazen and taken in for questioning. Between 1:30 and 2:20 a.m. two search warrants were issued and the two men were arrested.

A third man was taken in for questioning but was not arrrested.

Both individuals are being held in the Mercer County Detention Center pending formal charges. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
