Fearless

Kat Perkins was born in Bowman and graduated from Scranton High School before setting off on an intrepid journey that is continuing today thanks, in large part, to a top-five finish on NBC’s “The Voice” in season six.
Perkins has just released her debut solo release, “Fearless.” The single was produced by John Fields (Pink, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez) and independently hit #5 on the iTunes chart.
“We wanted to capture the whirlwind experience of ‘The Voice’ and having the courage to do something like that and go as far as I did,” Perkins said. “The first line in the song asks ‘what would you do if you weren’t afraid?’ and I knew it would portray the message of being fearless, taking risks and being outside your comfort zone and seeing how fulfilling that can actually be.”
But that wasn’t always the case for Perkins.
In 2012, Perkins had success with a single written by Chad Kroeger (Nickelback) that featured Guns N’ Roses guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, Nine Inch Nails drummer Ilan Rubin, Grammy nominated producer Joe Marlett and her current musical director, Eric Warner.
But then, the unthinkable happened. Perkins lost her voice and was forced into an early retirement.
“It was the scariest single moment of my life,” she recalled. “It happened so suddenly. I couldn’t talk or sing or anything but we quickly got to the bottom of it and found I had a cyst on my left vocal cord and had it removed.”
Although it was a relief, Perkins admitted it was a trying time not being able to work. She found solace, and inspiration, when she became a nanny to make her ends meet.
“Those kids motivated me and made me get back in the business for the voyage I am on now.” Perkins said.
