From highest north to deepest south

From highest north to deepest south

By Daniel Arens

One man’s passion for flying has taken him all over the world, from the greatest extremes of the two poles, and many places in between.
The journey has taken Art Mortvedt far, but it begins at a small farm outside Stanton.
“Our farm was where Basin Electric now sits,” he recalled. “I graduated from high school in Stanton in 1967.”
Mortvedt pursued his further education at Dickinson State College, taking a degree in mathematics. He also worked with the National Park Service in the Black Hills. It was while doing this job that he met his future wife Damaris, when he was directing people as to where they should park.
But while he was attending school there, opportunities began to arise for him to pursue two lifelong dreams of his: flying airplanes and living in Alaska.
