From L.A. to Center: The story of Jazz Night’s guest artist

One talented California musician has an interesting connection to the area. Now, Hazen is taking advantage of his proximity for this coming Monday’s Jazz Night, one of its biggest musical nights of the year.
Michael Cartwright is from in Los Angeles, Calif., where he has been involved with a couple of bands in the big city. Throughout his life, he has had a passion for music, ever since first picking up a trumpet in middle school band.
It’s hard to think of a more different setting from L.A. than Center, N.D., but Cartwright also has a connection that had led him to the small town each year. His mother, Valorie Cartwright, is originally from Center; Michael recalled her connection with the Henkes.
