From skyscrapers to grain bins: A life dedicated to achievement

There’s a lot to be seen, and a lot to be done, in five decades of work within a given field.
Steve Hoetzer engineered many of the coal stormwater retention and sedimentation ponds in the state. He helped with the design for the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District’s proposed irrigation plan. He was a field engineer for buildings like IBM in Chicago, and he was also the adviser for several years to the local Mercer County Water Resource Board while working with Apex Engineering.
Hoetzer lives in Mercer County, in one of the houses that makes up Cabin Site #2, northwest of Pick City along the south shore of Lake Sakakawea. He and his wife Mary Ellen, a North Dakota native have lived in that house since 2001, and in the general area since 1973.
“So we’ve really been in Mercer County for a very long time,” Hoetzer said.
