General Election day November 4
By Chris Gessele It all comes down to Tuesday. Tuesday, Nov. 4, votes will be cast at polls across the nation. In Mercer County, voters will hit the polls and mail-in ballots will be tallied for the 2008 General Election. For the second time, Mercer County elected to allow Mercer County voters a Vote by Mail option. The other option is the only open polling place in the county, the Mercer County Courthouse in Stanton. The polls at the courthouse will be open from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. MST, Tuesday, Nov. 4. As of Monday, the Mercer County auditor’s office had mailed out 3,727 ballots, County Auditor Monte Erhardt said. Of those, 2,123 had been returned and are ready to be counted. Also as of Monday, there were 1,574 ballots yet to be processed, 11 in suspense with no signature on the envelope, and 19 duplicate ballots requested due to lost or mis-marked first ballots. The 3,600-plus ballots mailed roughly equals voter turnout in the 2004 presidential election, Erhardt said. "I’m very pleased with the turnout results so far," he added. Lyle Latimer, chairman of the Mercer County Commission, is running unopposed on the ballot for his third four-year term on the County Commission.
