Gwen Sebastian returns to Hazen Oktoberfest

By Daniel Arens
The time for this year’s Oktoberfest in Hazen is quickly approaching but, ironically enough, the festival will be held entirely within the month of September.
Oktoberfest will feature a wide variety of entertainments and events for all ages. The festival takes place Sept. 24 to Sept. 26.
The festival will include a concert with country music singer and songwriter Gwen Sebastian, who is returning for her second performance at a Hazen celebration. Sebastian’s performance will be held on Main Street Saturday, Sept. 26, at 8:30 p.m. Her concert will be followed with continued entertainment by DJ Paulie. The Hazen Chamber of Commerce and Hazen Fire Department are sponsoring the music, while the Hazen/Beulah Wrestling Team will sell concessions.
Advance tickets to Sebastian’s concert cost $15, while tickets purchased at the gate are $20. Advance tickets may be purchased at Cenex in Hebron, Glen Ullin, and Hazen; Hiway Express in Hazen and Beulah; Union State Bank; Krause’s; and Hazen Bottle.
The concert comes at the end of numerous activities for local residents. Beer tasting, including hammerschlagen and beer hoisting, will be held at the Hazen Golf Course 6 - 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24. Friday will follow up with a fleishkeuchle feed at All Seasons Arena and Longshots at 4 p.m. The proceeds will go to the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.), which helps provide scholarships for girls attending higher education.
A street teen dance on Main Street will be held Friday evening at 9 p.m., following the fleishkeuchle feed. The dance will feature “2 Girls with Karaoke and a Camera.” The dance costs $2 to attend, and is sponsored by Healthy Youth Task Force.
Saturday holds a full day leading up to Sebastian’s concert. A color run will begin at 9 a.m., with registration beginning at 8 a.m. The run will begin at All Seasons Arena, and is sponsored by Union State Bank and the Sakakawea Medical Center Wellness Committee. Cinema Flix will also allow a free movie Saturday afternoon with the purchase of concessions.
