Hazen brothers represent state at bass tournament

By Daniel Arens

Two brothers from Hazen formed themselves into a fishing team that became the face of the state at a national competition.
Dylan and Austin Martell have enjoyed fishing for many years, and their interest paid off when they learned they would be able to represent North Dakota at the 2019 National High School Bass Fishing Championship in Alabama.
This is the second year for the national bass fishing contest, in which states send teams to face off for the title of champions in bass fishing for the United States. In North Dakota, a single team is sent to represent the state, while some states send multiple teams to compete.
In order to reach the nationals, Dylan and Austin first had to make it through the qualification and championship in North Dakota. On June 1, they took to the water of Lake Ashtabula for qualifiers, followed the next day by the state championship at Spiritwood Lake.
