By Lee Coleman
Following a public hearing on the proposed 2015 Hazen city budget last week at the Hazen City Commission meeting, Oct. 6 has been designated as the day the final budget for the upcoming year is scheduled to be approved.
The proposed budget went up 13 percent from this year when the published budget was $4,354, 039. In 2015, the published budget is $5,080,961.
The budget increases were necessary, in part, to a 24 percent increase in employee health benefits and 2.5 percent raises across the board, and includes a couple of larger equipment purchases, such as the police department vehicle and sewer jet/vac trailer.
The annual tax levy for 2015 will also be set at the meeting scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
In other city news, Commission President Jerry Obenauer reported he and Police Commissioner Jason Haack met with the Hazen Police Department to discuss the enforcement of ordinances around the city.
