Hazen City election field ready for June

The landscape of the 2014 Hazen City election took shape Monday as the deadlines for filing petitions to run for office expired at 4 p.m.
City Commission President Mark Nygard is retiring and will not seek reelection in the June 10 election. City Commissioner Jerry Obenauer, fresh off his first term on the Commission, will run unopposed on the ballot to succeed Nygard.
Incumbent Municipal Court Judge Myron Stern will win another term, again running unopposed.
Timothy Johnson and Gary Emter both filed petitions to seek seats on the Board. This will be Emter’s second attempt at the Park Board post.
The Hazen City Commission will have two vacant, at-large spots up for grabs on the ballot.
Incumbent Nancy Wolf will run for a full term after serving two years of an unexpired term.
“I enjoy doing this,” Wolf said on Tuesday. “I like being involved in the community. The major issue facing the Commission over the next four years is the lack of housing. We need to find places for people to live that is affordable.
