Hazen drama propelled to state

Hazen drama propelled to state

By Daniel Arens

It’s only about a 30 minute production. But the performance of six Hazen actors and their support staff in that half hour left a memorable impression, helping bring the team to the state level for the first time in around a decade.
This year, the Hazen High School Drama team put together a one-act show of “The Picture of Dorian Gray” for their fall festival. Adapted for the stage from Oscar Wilde’s novel of the same name, the play starred Garrett Lightsey as Dorian Gray, a handsome young man who sells his soul to a painting in exchange for maintaining in his body the youth portrayed in the picture.
Other actors and actresses with the play were Grace Schrempf as Margaret, who painted the picture; John Retterath as Sir Henry Wotton, a friend of Gray; Harley Vocke as Lady Henry Wotton, Sir Henry’s wife; Isabella Nolan as Sybil Lane, an actress and love interest of Gray; and Lily Babb as Mrs. Sybil Lane, the actress’s mother.
