Hazen Highway 200 project receives major green light

By Daniel Arens

Despite the uncertainty currently caused by the pandemic, the Hazen City Commission received optimistic news about an expansive project the state could do along the highway in town.
For several months, the commission has discussed the scope of a Highway 200 project, which would involve several facets. These would be additional lighting along the eastern and western portions of the street in town, connecting the bike paths around town and (the largest and most expensive aspect) installing an underpass for pedestrians beneath the highway near Cenex.
During a teleconference meeting May 18, City Engineer Jerod Klabunde, Moore Engineering, informed the city commission that Hazen’s project was one of two which had been approved by the North Dakota Department of Transportation. This approval is a cost-share between the city and the state, by which the state will finance 90 percent of the cost for the installation.
