Hazen hospitality hosts CANDISC participants
Big bikes, small bikes, red bikes, blue bikes. From grandpas and grandmas, to little tikes. With apologies to Dr. Seuss, all were in Hazen from Friday morning to Saturday morning as part of Cycling Around North Dakota In Sakakawea Country – better known as CANDISC. Over 500 riders and CANDISC support staff began peddling into town early Friday morning, the early start a tactic used by many to beat the heat. A welcome and informational tent and several volunteers were here awaiting the riders to help make their stay as enjoyable as possible. Mike Krause spent the night at the school to ensure that everything went smoothly overnight. And aside from the middle school lawn sprinklers going off in the middle of the night, all went well. “The riders were very please with all of Hazen’s hospitality,” he said, noting about 40 volunteers helped the riders feel welcome. “The volunteers’ efforts really show Hazen has a sense of community, and that means something to the riders. Every one of the volunteers were in good spirits and would bend over backward to make the riders feel at home.”
