Hazen students awarded Eagle Scout rank for community, Scout service

Two Hazen students officially became Eagle Scouts at a ceremony held Feb. 7.
Carter Mattheis and Patrick McCarthy took the title of Eagle Scout after receiving all the required merit badges and completing a Scout Service Project for the community. Mattheis built a flower bed outside the Senior Suites in Hazen, while McCarthy put up a welcome sign for the community at the intersection of Highway 200 and 4th Ave. NE.
During the ceremony, both boys recited the Eagle Scout Oath and were charged with their obligations as new Eagle Scouts. They were presented with Eagle Insignia by former Scoutmaster Russ Goodwin, with the insignia placed by their parents. Both Mattheis and McCarthy also presented Eagle Insignia to their parents and important influences on their development as Scouts.
Other parts of the ceremony included a poem by Megan McCarthy, a “Bear Attack” skit by all of the Scouts in Troop 1043, and a tribute video by Erik Mattheis. A social followed the conclusion of the ceremony.
