HCD looking ahead to Hazen’s future

By Daniel Arens
During their annual meeting, Hazen Community Development looked at the progress their recent projects have made, as well as the possibilities for them and the community in the future.
Buster Langowski, HCD executive director, spoke about several of the projects going on with HCD during the annual meeting Feb. 27. He said the remaining debt on the Hazen Commerce Center was nearly paid off, thanking The Union Bank for renegotiating the interest on that payment.
Langowski highlighted some of the benefits HCD offers local business, including the Flex Pace and Renaissance Zone programs. Flex Pace allows HCD and the Bank of North Dakota to cover up to 5 percent in interest payments for a five year period, something he encouraged businesses to take advantage of.
He also reported HCD’s request to the state to extend the Renaissance Zone project another five years was granted. The program allows new construction or remodels in the designated zones to be eligible for property and income tax relief for a period of time.
