Icing on your Valentine’s Day

Goodies are a big part of Valentine’s Day, and the Sakakawea Hospice and Home Health folks are doing their part to make sure some delicious morsels make their way through the community Friday, February 13.
The group will host its 19th Annual Cookie Fundraiser. For a minimum suggested donation amount of $7, eight Valentine cookies will be packaged and hand delivered to “sweethearts” within the city limits of Hazen and Beulah and to area power plants.
According to Sakakawea Hospice, the cookies are made with sugar, spice and everything nice and will send a message of love or friendship to the recipients.
“Each year, the program has grown,” said Lori Knoll of Sakakwea Hospice. “I don’t think we’ve had a year when it didn’t grow. The first year, we packaged about 500 orders. Last year, we delivered nearly 1,500 packages.”
The dynamics of delivering that many packages can be a daunting task, but Knoll said it all comes down to teamwork. And lots of it.
“It takes a whole group of us, but we get them delivered to each person,” Knoll said. “It is tough delivering that many cookies. Our volunteers are amazing and wonderful and they work so hard for us.”
Knoll was quick to point out the help the hospice gets from outside its own walls.
“It’s not just hospice volunteers that do it, but community members that just do it out of the goodness of their hearts,” she explained. “They do it because they know the size of this project and how bad we need the help, so the whole community helps us out with the program.”
