Kat Perkins signed for 2014 Hazen OktoberFest

The Hazen Chamber of Commerce took a huge step forward this week when Chamber Executive Director Terri Philion announced the signing of The Voice’s Kat Perkins to perform at the 2014 Hazen OktoberFest celebration Saturday, Oct. 11.
The Scranton native, who finished fifth in the 2013 edition of The Voice, has toured North Dakota this summer, and will be joined by the rising duo and local favorite Tigirlily in the show that will take place on Main Street in Hazen.
“The OktoberFest Committee wanted something big and we tossed around several names,” said Philion. “Kat had just wrapped up on The Voice so we put in a phone call and told them our budget and they said they would get back to us.”
Philion, at the time, didn’t think she would hear back since Perkins’ normal pay for a concert was about four times the amount the Chamber discussed with her handlers.
“I was not too positive they would call back but about a week later, they called and said Kat was interested,” Philion recalled. “We were able to negotiate and find a price point where everybody was comfortable. Overall, it took us about a month to get the deal done.”
Although terms of the contract were not disclosed, Philion said the signing was a positive step for the Chamber.
