Knife River Chorale again making Christmas merry

David Schoenrock will be there, directing the Knife River Chorale through Christmas carols at the beginning of Saturday and Sunday’s concerts in his passionate, energetic trademark style that area music lovers have appreciated for over a half-century.

Then, he will hand the baton to Brad Heinzer – a ceremonial end to Schoenrock’s 52 years on the podium.

"It’s a long time," Schoenrock said with a laugh. "I’ll probably reflect back through the years … and remember the little things."

Over his 52 years of conducting, he has watched the chorale become almost an institution, he said.

"We have been blessed to be able to bring (concerts) to people in the area."

The chorale, composed of over 50 talented area individuals, is performing at 7 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday at the Hazen Elementary gym. According to Knife River Chorale President Dan Pillar, the chorale will perform a mix of mellow and upbeat musical pieces with piano and various instrumental accompaniments, as well as a cappella.
