Knife River flooding gets its moment in the sun

It was Mercer County’s chance to get some attention for its struggles to recover from the 2009 spring flood and ask for assistance to prevent future flooding.

With 52 out of 53 North Dakota counties experiencing flooding in 2009 it has been hard for many small communities to compete for attention against the near disasters in Fargo, Bismarck, Jamestown and Valley City. Mercer County finally had the floor at a congressional hearing hosted by Sen. Byron Dorgan Nov. 12 in Bismark. Dorgan also held hearings of flooding concerns in Bismarck and Linton during his two-day visit to Bismarck.
