Lego League gears up for January competition

Lego League gears up for January competition

By Daniel Arens

While Christmas is the dominant thought in people’s minds lately, one group of Hazen students is also thinking ahead for a major event next month.
The LEGO League team faces its regional competition in Bismarck Jan. 12. The event, held at the Bobcat center, is a preliminary to a state competition, with the top half of teams from the local contest advancing to the state level.
On Dec. 20, just prior to the break, the team held a preliminary run-through of their plan with the kids’ parents acting as judges. The parents were able to see what their kids are doing in the league, and offer suggestions for how to improve their presentation for the judges next month.
LEGO League combines LEGO robotic skills with the development of projects. Various schools around the state compete and are judged on science and technology skills, project development and cooperation among the team members.
