Library implements distanced Summer Reading
By Daniel Arens
Hazen Public Library is open again, and its staff is working hard to encourage people to take advantage and read some good books over the summer months.
At the heart of this worthy goal is the Summer Reading Program, which involves kids, teens and adults. This year’s program looks a little different than those from the past, but Nikki Wolf is determined to make it work and to make it fun.
The reading program runs from May 26 to August 9, with interested readers able to join at any time by signing up on the library’s website. While anyone of any age can enter, there are some additional activities (socially distant) and prizes for the younger readers.
“For the kids, they are going to log their minutes [that they spend reading] weekly,” Wolf said. As long as the kids spend any amount of time reading, they are eligible for a drawing for a weekly prize.
