Life can change in a mere second
By Lee Coleman
The day before Thanksgiving 2014 started like any other day for Hazen Firefighter Matthew LeMasters. He was driving home from his North American Coal job in Underwood and was about two miles west of Pick City on Highway 200.
Dusk had just given way to dark when suddenly, without warning, an object appeared directly in front of him in his westbound lane.
He only had enough time to jam on the brakes in his Chevy Silverado 2500 before the Ford F-150 in front of him, without the lights on and piloted by a female drunk driver, collided head-on with LeMasters and changed his life forever.
“All I could do was hit the brakes,” LeMasters said. “It was too late to get out of the way.”
