Local chorale gears up for Christmas
By Daniel Arens
With a weekend hosting July-like temperatures, it seems hard to believe that Christmas is slightly over two months away. One local group, however, is already gearing up for the December holiday.
The Knife River Chorale begins practicing for its annual Christmas concert Oct. 15.
The chorale this year will perform a cantata entitled “The Christmas Story: A Christmas Carol Celebration.” The performance will combine traditional songs and songs based on the cantata’s theme, which reads “Images of promise, joy, love, faith, worship, and God’s great gift of salvation.”
The chorale meets in the Hazen Elementary Music Room on Thursday evenings. In the past, the chorale met Sunday evenings, but this year changed the time and day to try to accommodate more people’s schedules.
This year marks the 59th annual Christmas concert put on by the Knife River Chorale. The chorale is under the direction of Pastor Mary Lou Aune of Zion Lutheran Church in Beulah and is open to anyone who wishes to participate. Participants are encouraged to begin attending in October so that rehearsals do not fall behind.
