‘Boeckel bridge’ open to traffic along Highway 200
As of 6:30 p.m. Friday, a big dose of convenience has been re-administered to Mercer County motorists. The bridge along State Highway 200, just north of the crossroads seven miles east of Hazen, has been closed since the Knife River flooded in late March. The swollen river had washed away soil from underneath the structure’s south decking, causing the bridge to become unsafe. After barricades had been placed near the bridge, a motorist moved the barricades and attempted to cross the bridge, falling into the chasm in the process.
