‘Face of Basin’ retires

For 35 years Daryl Hill has walked in and out of the Basin Electric Power Cooperative headquarters in Bismarck. He has strolled along the walkways at Antelope Valley Station 1,500 times. And reporters calling into his phone for an interview are greeted with an Irish twist.
“Top o’ the mornin’. This is Daryl.”
The manager of media and communications relations has given his last interview and has hung up his hard hat. Hill announced his retirement from the electric provider in July, and Monday was his last day.
“Tuesday morning is going to be sort of surreal because I won’t have to go to work,” he told the Hazen Star Friday. “It’s been a phenomenal career.”
The “Face of Basin” joined the Communications Department in 1978. He was responsible for coordinating communications efforts for the construction of AVS near Beulah. He later became the main tour guide for the coal-based plant, ushering thousands of people through the facility.
