Mercer County switches to Central
The verdict is in: Mercer County will be switching from Mountain to Central Time Zone.
After a comment period lasting several months and a public hearing, the U.S. Department of Transportation has made the decision to move Mercer County to Central time effective Nov. 7.
The timing of Nov. 7 coincides with the end of Daylight Savings Time, which is meant to ease Mercer County residents' transition to Central time. Clocks in Mercer County will remain where they are Nov. 7 and beyond, while regions previously in Central time will fall back one hour. When Daylight Savings Time starts up in the spring, all clocks will spring ahead one hour.
The Mercer County Commission petitioned the DOT to switch the county from Mountain to Central time in Oct. 2009 in response to a movement revived by the Beulah Chamber of Commerce.
