Mrs. Karges named Mercer County Teacher of the Year

By Daniel Arens
It’s been a strange year for students and teachers in Hazen, as around the rest of the nation.
Not only are school districts still facing the lingering effects of the pandemic, continuing to address masks and distance learning, but there is also a gap that needs to be filled for kids who found their education abruptly cut off at the end of the last school year.
Thankfully, Hazen has a dedicated teacher determined to fill that gap and help students excel.
Jackie Karges, Hazen Elementary Strategist, has been involved in education her entire life. After briefly starting out in Washington State teaching special education, she has spent all her time since in Hazen: 5 years in fifth grade, 6 years in first and 15 years in third, prior to taking the strategist position, where she is in her third year.
