New beacon lighting up the Mercer County sky
For the first time in more than a half-century, residents of Hazen and the surrounding area will see a new beacon of light slicing through the nighttime darkness.
The Mercer County Regional Airport Authority installed a new rotating beacon last week near the airport just east of Hazen along North Dakota Highway 200. The old beacon, taken down in October, had been in service since May 12, 1954, according to Roughrider Electric Cooperative’s records.
