New fire truck purchase approved
By Daniel Arens
Despite a hefty price tag, and lots of concerns over where the money to cover that price tag would come from, the Hazen City Commission chose to move forward with the purchase of a new pumper truck for the city’s fire department.
Currently, the Hazen Fire Department’s pumper truck is 22 years old. While that isn’t old enough to warrant immediate concern, Fire Chief Kasey Lesmann wanted to see the department be proactive, getting a truck now rather than waiting for the old one to break down and not be available for an emergency.
In addition, the fact that the current truck is not shot means the fire department can get some trade-in value for the vehicle, helping to offset some of the major expense of the new equipment.
