New RV Park gets green light from Park Board

Over the last year, the construction of a new RV Park by the Hazen Park District has seen its share of ups and downs. But they stayed with it.
All the hard work and hours upon hours of meetings paid off last Thursday in a special called meeting when the Hazen Park Board voted unanimously to start the bidding process for construction of the park.
In recent months, the price tag for the RV Park hovered around $1 million to $1.3 million but, after working the deal down and hearing the City of Hazen plans for lift stations and other infrastructure around the RV Park sight from the Surge Funding bill, the final price tag is a long way from being locked in.
Even after bids are in, the park board can go in and make further cost-saving cuts as they did Thursday night prior to the final vote.
“We have been working hard at it for about the last year or so,” said Board Chairman Al Mautz. “We got a little involved back in 2012 when the city wanted to move the Lewis and Clark Park for a development project that eventually fell through.
“Now, it has come back up and this is about the time for us to do it before another company comes in and wants the land we’re going to use.”
The land for the new RV Park was deeded to the Hazen Park District by the City of Hazen, and the potential income stream projected by the park board was the determining factor in moving forward.
